Generally
I begin my classroom visit by sharing some biographical information
and reading some of my own poems. This is followed by a question and
answer session. Students are encouraged to ask questions about the
entire writing process: ideas and inspiration, drafting, revising/editing,
and publication. Through structured writing exercises students then
create their own poems. My aim is for students to see the magic in
poetry and how it helps to build the four components of literacy:
speaking, listening, reading and writing
"Catherine
delivered an enthusiastic presentation in my Grade 12 Writer's
Craft class. The students were engaged throughout the readings
and really enjoyed the activities. She took care to learn the
students' names and connected poetry to them on a personal level.
Catherine is an exceptional poet, an excellent teacher, and
an inspiring person. We would love to have her return to the
school again."
-Jessica Outram, Teacher. Notre Dame Catholic
Secondary School, Ajax.

"Catherine
keeps taking my poetic experience to a new level. She inspires
and leads me with her gentle but uncompromising eye for detail
and excellence. My poetic voice is sharper, my language tighter,
and my vision broader than I thought possible. A session with
Catherine deepens my imagination; I always come away with
greater confidence."
-Angie Belcastro, Teacher.
