About the Artist
Dave Ripley was born in London, Ontario, Canada in 1939. With his interest in art
showing at an early age, he completed his first oil painting by the time he was 12
years old. His formal art education includes attendance at the Ontario College of
Art and workshops and seminars in his native Ontario. He has always been inspired by
the "Group of Seven", and in particular by Tom Thomson and that artist's
understanding and perception of the Canadian Wilderness. Dave is a respected member
of several arts councils and has exhibited both in one-man shows, and in conjunction
with 3-D artists. His works can be found in various Alberta Art Galleries,
and his Greeting and Christmas Cards have shown a wide appeal over the years to commercial
and individual art lovers alike. His talent has been acknowledged through commissioned work;
as an example the outdoor mural he completed in conjunction with the Town of Stony Plain Mural
Project.

His love for art is being passed on to children and adults in Edmonton and surrounding
areas, by his spirited teaching of the basics of drawing and various painting disciplines.
Since coming to Alberta in 1971 Dave has lived in the country west of Edmonton. His works are
created in the field and at a rustic studio perched on a hillside behind his home. He is equally at
ease with watercolor or oil applications. However, in recent years he has discovered a special
affection for acrylics and the rich, vivid color achieved through this medium.
Dave has travelled extensively throughout rural Alberta, where abandoned pioneer homesteads,
surrounded by the relics of the past, have held a special fascination for his brush. As an avid
outdoors man, his observations of scenery and wildlife are transferred to his canvas in an authentic
and compassionate manner. Completing much of his field work in the Jasper and Banff area of the Rocky
Mountains has brought him into close relationship with the diversity and splendor the seasons have
to offer in this beautiful corner of the world.
Over the years, Dave Ripley's art has found its way into Homes and Corporate Collections across Canada
and part of the USA and Europe.
