Photos from the 2001 - 2002 season:

Our first technical presentation was made by the 2001 Brian Ives lecturer, Prof. Steve Yue from McGill University.  Pictured here from left to right are D. Dudzinski (chairman), S. Yue (presenter), and C. Adams (vice-chairman).

In October we had a technical presentation made by Dr. Xin Xiang Jiang from the Canadian Space Agency with a whopping 45 people attending.

Coupled with this technical program was ASM Ottawa Valley's Student Awards Night.   Congratulations.

From left to right: R. Miller (Edu chair), S. Robertson (Algonquin), P. Sargeant (RMC), S. Kenney (Carleton), D. Pickard (Queens), A. Price (U of O), X.X. Jiang (speaker), D. Dudzinski (chapter chair).

At our November technical meeting, Dr. Mahi Sahoo (far right) presented the Canadian Sustaining Member Corporate Innovation Award to Fibics Incorporated who was represented by Dr. Michael Phaneuf, president (centre).
The Ottawa Valley Chapter was also presented with the ASM 5-Star award for Chapter Quality and Recognition Program for the 2000-2001 year.  The current chapter chair, David Dudzinski (far left) is shown here with the award.  Kudos to the previous chapter chair, Dr. Sylvie Dionne.

Our November technical program was a joint meeting with the National Capital section of NACE.  A very interesting talk was provided by Dr. M. Graham from the NRC.  Shown from left to right are D. Dudzinski (ASM-Ottawa Valley chapter chair), J. Martin (representative from our meeting sponsorer, FEI Systems Canada Inc.), M. Graham (technical presenter), M. Phaneuf (Fibics Inc.), M. Sahoo (ASM Canada Council Chair), and B. Baldock (NACE National Capital section chair).

At this first meeting, the Ottawa Valley Chapter's vice chair, C. Adams (centre) also tendered his resignation.  No, there were no juicy scandals, Carl had just found a job in New York!   Although we are happy that he has found a job, we are sorry to see him leave our chapter.  Farewell Carl and best of luck.   From left to right: D. Dudzinski, D. Seo, C. Adams, H. Saari, and Y. Fasoyinu

Our first meeting of the year 2002 was a joint meeting with ASM and SAE!  An amazing 49 people showed up to hear a talk by Dr. Jason Lo (centre).   On the left, the chair of the ASM Ottawa Valley Chapter D. Dudzinski.  On the right, the chair of the SAE Ottawa chapter, R. Provencher.

As you can see, there were many strikes throughout the afternoon and even a Turkey or two. From left to right: A. Gullon (coffee-time speaker), H. Saari (vice-chair, ASM Ottawa), R. Provencher (speaker and chair, SAE Ottawa).

John not only taught us how to count at 5-pin bowling, he showed us how to bowl!  Thanks John.

The top score one can get in 5-pin bowling is 450.  The top score during our social event is credited to Mahi Sahoo with 238 points.  The lowest score was 62 and that person, while remaining nameless, is known to update this webpage!

For our social event this year, the ASM-Ottawa Valley Chapter went BOWLING!
Those who attended, both old and young, had a fantastic time.

In April 2002, we had a special guest lecturer: George VanderVoort, ASM Fellow and Trustee.  Congratulations to Mahmoud Shehata who paid close attention during the prestenation and won a book for his efforts.  Pictured left to right is M. Shehata, G. VanderVoort, and D. Dudzinski.

From left to right: D. Dudzinski (ASM-Ottawa), S. Payne (Curator), P. Zuuring (presenter), and J. Bird (CASI-Ottawa). Throughout the night many people expressed how interesting the whole evening was.  Kudos to the curators (Stephen and Renald), the speaker (Peter), and those who took the time to put it together (Jeff and David).

The museum holds some very rare pieces of the Avro Arrow -- which was the topic of the presentation by Peter Zuuring.

Here Stephen Payne talks about one of the early aircraft with a rotary engine.

Stephen Payne, Curator Aeronautical Technology along with his colleague, Renald Fortier (Curator/History), graciously took those who showed up on a private tour of the Aviation Museum.  The museum has quite a vast collection of flight devices and information, it is too bad that they do not have enough space to display all of it.

For our last meeting of the 2001/2002 season, we visited the Aviation Museum in Ottawa for an amazing tour. After the tour (see more pictures below) we went to the Ottawa-Hull Navy Association for dinner and a presentation. This was a joint meeting with ASM Ottawa, ASM Montreal, and CASI Ottawa.  For the tour we had a turn-out of around 59 people, for dinner we had 85 people, and 91 people for the presentation!
