Our first meeting of the 2002/2003 was a great success with
Prof. Jodoin from the University of Ottawa presenting some research on Cold Spray

Another investigation involves a local anphibious vehicle
which sunk on June 23, 2002 and ended in tragedy. |
|

A joint tour/meeting with CASI prooved very thorough.
The tour of the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) was put on by the speaker, Don
Langdon. Here is part of an investigation into the Swiss Air Accident.
The wiring is believed to have caused a fire which brought down an aircraft.

For our final meeting of 2002, the President of ASM
International came and visited. His talk was very interesting and the audience was

At the first meeting of 2003, René Provencher gave a very
thorough and interesting talk on Armor and Armor Vehicles. This was a joint meeting
between ASM and SAE with a great turnout of 45 people. During the coffee and dessert,
everyone present benefited from a special talk on the relationship of speed and
fatalities by Al Gullon.

For the 2003 Ottawa Valley ASM Student Poster Night $600 in
prizes were up for grabs! Over 10 students participated, including 1 high school
student, 4 univeristy level student's, and 5 graduate level student's participated.
The night came to a close after an excellent presentation from M. Anal who attended the
ASM Materials Camp in 2002. |

In March, Dr. Karatzas gave a talk on BioSteel, and from the
questions afterwards, the talk was well recieved. |
|

In the April meeting, some awards were handed out to our long
standing members. Unfortunately many of them were unable to attend. Prof.
Moyra McDill was able to recieve her 25 year pin from the Ottawa Valley Chapter Chair,
Kumar Sadayappan. |

|
David Lockwood gave a very enlightening talk for our last
meeting in Ottawa before the summer break on the Light Emission in Silicon Nanostructures.

Our last meeting of the 2002/2003 season was a joint meeting
with ASM-Montreal. A tour of Hydro Quebec's IREQ facility was also scheduled. One
of our sustaining members graciously provided an 8 seater van for the trip to Varenne
(just past Montreal) and 2 drivers! Thanks VERY much. Here we see one of the

The van was spacious and took 7 passengers. For the tour
we were required to wear hardhats. Because the campus was so large, we had to drive
between buildings. |

Applied to the Electrical Field in Hydro Quebec's theatre. |

After the tour, a delicious dinner was provided in the
cafeteria of Hydro Quebec. The food was tasty and plentiful! |
