We are receiving several reports of callers to the Census being subjected to agressive questioning
[Update:16 May 2006] Several viewers have told us about their experiences when they called the Census toll-free number solely to request separate census forms for each household member, or to request large-print forms. These requests, as suggested by CountMeOut.ca, are perfectly legitimate. Statistics Canada offers these options, and you have chosen to accept.
It appears that before mailing you the forms you request, the Census phone representative begins asking you a number of questions:; your name, how many persons in the household, how old is your house, etc. And they insist on knowing your reason for requesting separate forms or large print forms.
Our recommendation? When you call asking for forms, give only your address to which they should mail you the forms. No need to give your name, or the names of other household members. Tell them how many forms you need. And as for your reason for requesting the forms, a perfectly satisfactory answer is simply that you have decided to exercise your right to request forms. And tell them you want the forms mailed to you, not hand delivered by another overbearing Census visitor.
