Leaside Atom Baseball Association
News for 2017
A house league for boys born in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Congratulations to the 2017 Playoff champions, Zimmerman LePage and their coaches Charlie Zimmerman, Pat Shaw, and Mark Fitzgerald as well as their worthy opponent Local Eatery coached by Mike Kennedy and crew!
It was a hard fought playoff finals and in the third and deciding game, Zimmerman LePage took home the playoff trophy by the slim margin of a 2 – 1 score.
Tim Willis, one of our dedicated convenors, told the crowd after the game how he started off as a player, then a coach and finally an executive His claim to fame was not that he lost all 13 games one season but that in the following registration period, he was the most sought after coach – the boys had fun under his guidance. His approach exemplifies: “It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game.”
Notables in attendance were our city councillor, Jon Burnside (player, umpire, coach) and our dynamic duo, Jeff Rogers and Zak Cosman – coaches of our 1st Place League Champion, Mosaic. Jeff and Zak didn’t have to be there because they lost out in the semifinals to Local Eatery. I suspect that they were there either out of the goodness of their hearts or to scout out next year’s Mosaic players… J.
Roberto Alomar, the first player inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, and fellow former Jays George Bell and Duane Ward, led a skills clinic for about 150 players from the Leaside Atom Baseball Association at Trace Manes Park on May 14. (Dan Girard 2017)
