This group of paintings refers to the nature of figures as they expose themselves to sun, sand, sea and me.
As artist/voyeur, I have used vivid strokes of colour to convey the inherent excitement of the human body in this most natural setting, the beach.
Although some of my subjects are relating one to another, more often they exist apart, as solitary beings.
This is an environment which induces reflective introspection.
They are studies not in frivolous pastime, but in the luxury of having ones own time.
The viewer need not worry that he must interact with these people.
We can create our own fantasies as to their political/sexual/sociological backgrounds.
My paintings present possibilities restricted by my specific selection; my middle-class North American sensibilities; my personal dealing with the beach.
These works were interpreted from photographs and sketches done in 1984/85 at beaches in Thailand, Australia and Indonesia.
