These chaired figures represent a theme that has been running through my work for a few years.
Although we are keen to relate one to another, we are inherently alone. We require personal space but strive to make contact. In these works, the chair is a safe vehicle from which we can interact or not; from which we can be contemplative or exploratory; from which our isolation can be confirmed or as a platform for our garrulousness.
The conceit of the canvas explores the controlled space of the chair. Enthusiastic colour draws the viewer in to what is actually a singular reality : the intimate scale requires scrutiny of painting technique and infers value to the situation.

On the other hand, these are simply paintings reflecting the "One Apart".

first shown at "Two together, One Apart" an exhibit with E Val Roos in Ottawa, May, 2001

- also exhibited at Karsh-Masson Gallery(Ottawa, Canada) from July - September, 2007. The show called " UNDISCLOSED NARRATIVE " included work from the WAKE, FLOATERS, and Y2K series as well. Each piece was numbered rather than titled to allow the audience neutral entry into the picture's space.
